6. The Season I Wish Would Stay | Wildlife, Wattles & Wonder
Winter has come and gone far too quickly.
Life in the high country this winter brought frosty mornings, mist, soft light, wallabies and wallaroos, curious joeys, returning birds, wattle bursting into bloom, flowers appearing in the depths of winter, and the simple comfort of a warm, cosy home.
There was fire too, after a year of clearing fallen branches left behind by last winter’s rare snow. It was mesmerising to watch, but also a reminder of nature’s beauty and power.
This season also had me thinking about change — the passing of winter, the changes in the global landscape, and what it means to live even more simply and thoughtfully as the future becomes increasingly uncertain.
And still, beauty keeps calling me back to the present.
A flower blooming. A joey peeking out. Birds at the birdbath. Sunlight through the trees. A rainbow stretching across an uninterrupted sky.
So, this is a little record of winter while it was here — a season I wish would stay, and the gentle transition into what comes next.
